Benalla Cruise and Shine Returns With Swap Meet in 2016

A swap meet in which car enthusiasts can buy, swap and sell parts and memorabilia will be the highlight of the 2016 Benalla Cruise and Shine family car show, which comes to Winton Raceway on Saturday, 20 August.

Unlike other automotive shows, the Benalla Cruise and Shine is not just a static display. The cars and bikes will cruise the circuit allowing spectators to experience the deep growl of muscle cars and throbbing engine note of motorcycles, just as they were in their heyday.

Winton Raceway operations manager Wayne Williams says the Cruise and Shine, run at Winton since 2012, has become a popular event for motoring enthusiasts throughout the region.

“Winton is a great location because the facility can accommodate a lot of vehicles along with various other displays and trade stalls,” Mr Williams said.

“Feedback we received from past events indicated that people were interested in being able to buy parts and collectable items, so the swap meet should be a great addition to the program.”

Complementing the vehicle displays will be an array of attractions including plane and glider fly-ins, and a Benalla Auto Club members display.

There will be trade stalls from Shannons, Rapid Performance and others, while food and refreshments will be available all day from the Winton kiosk.

Awards for the Cruise and Shine will be presented for:

  • Best hot rod
  • Best muscle car
  • Best truck
  • Best motorcycle
  • Best interior
  • Best engine bay
  • Best paint
  • Best BAC club car
  • Best original and restored pre-1950
  • Best original and restored post-1950
  • Grand Champion – best overall

Gate entry for the Cruise and Shine is by donation, with gate takings from the event to be donated to Haemochromatosis Australia, the official charity partner for the event.

Haemochromatosis Australia raises awareness and provides resources relating to the inherited iron overload disorder, which is the most common genetic disorder in Australia.

Benalla Auto Club photographer Judi McDonald is an ambassador for Haemochromatosis Australia, and will be in attendance at the Cruise and Shine along with BAC member Steve Murray, who competes in the Super TT Championship in his Holden VN Commodore which features Haemochromatosis signage.

Pre-entries for the Benalla Cruise and Shine are available via the competitor page on the Winton website.
