BMW Driver’s Cup Enduros Headline VMRC Round 2 This Weekend

This weekend’s second round of the Victorian Motor Racing Championship at the nation’s action track, Winton Motor Raceway, will be headlined by a pair of one-hour, twin-driver endurance races for the popular Q1 Group BMW Driver’s Cup for E30 and invited race cars.

Each car will consist of one regular BMW Driver’s Cup competitor, and one invitee, with a compulsory driver change taking place in each of the one-hour races.

Some high-profile guest drivers will join the series regulars, including former Touring Car Masters front-runner Gavin Bullas who teams up with Melbourne doctor Paul Kertes.

Sean Bell/Anton Bergman won the inaugural BMW Driver’s Cup enduro last year and will be among the contenders once again, but will be challenged by a host of rivals including the father-and-son combination of Chris/Graeme Bell and Brian Bourke/Stan Armstrong.

Tekno Autosport Supercars engineer Jarrod Bowles makes the trek down from Queensland to join his uncle Geoff Bowles, while Victorian Sports Sedan front-runner Brett Dickie joins up-and-coming female driver and WAMS member Jess Bell.

Regular Victorian motorsport commentator Dave Stillwell will swap the microphone for the helmet and driving suit this weekend, driving alongside rookie Michael Holdcroft.

The BMW E30 action will not be limited to the on-track racing either; on Saturday, there will be a BMW E30 Show and Shine event with a large contingent of E30 enthusiasts registered to attend and show off their E30 street cars. There will be free giveaways and prizes on offer, including some hot-laps in an E30 race car.

The BMW Driver’s Cup will be supported this weekend by two levels of Super TT racing. The regular Super TT races will be contested by regular competitors such as Steve Murray, Tony Heasley and David Dixon, while NSW Mitsubishi 380 drivers Neil Byers and Paul Leabeater will make the trek south.

New for this weekend will be the Super TT regularity category, introduced to encourage drivers from the Winton Sprint Series to take the next step towards circuit racing.

Also on the program this weekend are Miniature Race Cars, where the main contenders will be Chad Cotton and his Winton 300 co-driver Jase Collins, while in the Pulsar Challenge Jaie Robson is full of confidence after taking the round win and a new lap record at Wakefield Park last weekend.

The schedule for this weekend’s meeting is available here.
