Strong Grids for Sports Sedans and Sports Racers

IMGP4805-001_webThe Kerrick Sports Sedan National Series and Australian Sports Racer Series will both feature on the support program for this weekend’s Winton V8 Supercars Supersprint event on May 15-17 – and both feature strong grids.More than 20 cars will compete across three Kerrick Sports Sedan series races in arguably the series’ strongest field in years.Round 1 winner and eight-time national champion Tony Ricciardello and his legendary Alfa Romeo GTV will have his work cut out to hold out young charger Tom Randle’s 780hp SAAB 9-3, the reigning Australian Formula Ford champion having won the Victorian state championship round held at the Winton V8 Round twelve months ago in his first outing in the car.Six-time champion Kerry Baily will race his stunning Chev-powered Aston Martin DBR9 however all three will have to keep one eye on Holden Racing Team enduro co-driver Jack Perkins, who steps into the Audi A4 regularly driven by Darren Hossack.Perkins was drafted in to drive the thundering Audi following Hossack’s recent Speedway crash that saw him injure both knees in the accident – forcing him to the sidelines.Calibra driver Steven Tamasi, who finished on the podium in Sandown’s season opener, former Victorian champion Michael Robinson (Holden Monaro) and former national champ Bruce Banks (Mazda RX7) are a host of entrants expected to challenge well into the top-10.As well as a host of Kerrick series regulars and full-season entrants, newcomers like Liam Hill (Hyundai Excel), Shepparton Toyota-sponsored driver Daniel Zandt (Mini) and Ken House (Ford Escort) will also join the field.Meanwhile, the opening round of the Australian Sports Racer series for motorcycle-powered Sports and Open Wheel cars has attracted a healthy 15-car field. The Sports Racer series features three classes – SR1 for ‘outright’ competitors and SR2 for more entry level or new competitors to the series. The separate Formula 1000 class for motorcycle-powered ‘wings and slicks’ racers features three entries and will compete for their own trophy within the Sports Racer field.Following his narrow defeat to Adam Proctor in the 2014 season finale’, South Australian driver Roger I’Anson will look to kick off his title challenge in style at Winton but is unlikely to have things all his own way.Eight examples of the WEST chassis’ are entered, alongside two Radical SR3s, A Speads RS08 for young Italian driver Glauco Solieri and Mark Short’s always fast Prince. Both the Kerrick Sports Sedan and Australian Sports Racer Series races will be televised as part of the comprehensive, weekend-long broadcast package on FOX Motorsport (Channel 506). Kerrick Sports Sedans Entry List1.
