VMRC set for lights out
The 2025 Victorian Motor Racing Championship (VMRC) will roar into life this weekend with Round 1 at Winton Motor Raceway in country Victoria.
Five categories are scheduled to compete at the “Nation’s Action Track,” and all of them have stacked fields.
If you like thundering engines then this is the meeting for you, all categories certainly pack a punch underneath the bonnet.
This weekend schedule features Vic V8s, Stock Cars Australia, Vic Super TT, Sports Compact and BMW E30s.
Stock Cars Australia contains old NASCARs, AUSCARs and anything with a thumping engine including TA2 Muscle Cars, Holden Commodores and Ford Falcons.
This round is no different, there will be a NASCAR blasting around Winton, several of the lower tiered Aussie built AUSCARs and a couple of NASCAR Trucks.
As always, the Vic V8s turn up with a quality field, 17 entries have been received, all of which are familiar names to those that regularly watch the series.
The grid contains Greg Lynch and Brian Finn in there front running Commodores, Alan Davies in his popular XE Falcon and Mark Kakouri in his eye catching VH Commodore.
The oldest car will be driven by Gary Finemore, he be lapping in an ex-Touring Car Masters XB Coupe, while the most modern machine will be steered by Nathan Bell, a VE Commodore. All cars are Aussie built Holden and Fords and will appeal to all ages.
In the off-season 2-litre Sports Sedans has been renamed to Sports Compact, and an impressive 20 cars have entered the opening round.
There is a huge variety of vehicles from Renault Clio Cup cars to BMW E36s, Toyota 86s, Ford Escorts and much, much more.
There are a lot of new names to the series this weekend, so look out for some surprises along the way.
The high-quality BMW E30 series returns to the VMRC bill at Winton with a field of 17 cars.
All the usual front-runners are entered, including youngster Royce Lyne, Ashley Rogers, Jesse Bryan and Rory Plant. It will be an action-packed round for the E30 drivers.
Last, but not least, we have Victorian Super TT, there are two classes, over two-litre and under. Over includes Mazda RX-7s, Commodores, Falcons, Mitsubishi Starions and more, while under consists of Toyota 86s, Mazda 323s and Nissan Pulsars.

Winton Motor Raceway is two hours north of Melbourne, just outside the country town of Benalla.
Friday is a practice day and is free for spectators to attend. Saturday action commences at 9.15am with practice and qualifying taking place all morning. Racing commences from 12.50pm. Sunday is all racing, from 9.30am through until around 1.30pm.
Saturday admission costs just $15 and Sunday $20, for a discount a two-day pass costs $30. Kids under 16 can enter for free.
