Winton Sprint Series Round 1 Wrap
The first round of the Winton Sprint Series kicked off with a promising start, featuring excellent driving standards and favourable weather conditions. Notably, all cars showcased exceptional reliability, completing all laps across all sessions without any issues.
In the racing car class, Peter Hill and Keith Collins continued their impressive performance from the previous year, maintaining their dominance with consistently strong lap times.
The Club and Open Wheeler class saw a good turnout, with several new participants adding to the competition.
However, there was a decrease in junior participants compared to the previous year, with some transitioning to state racing and others aging out of the junior class. We encourage the growth of the junior class so please invite any interested individuals to join and try out the Sprint Series.
An interesting Sprint Series Fact highlights Zak Best and Ellexandra Best, who began their racing careers at Winton Motor Raceway by utilising the Sprint Series to gain valuable track experience.
The event also highlighted the importance of Officials in ensuring the success of the Sprint Series. Roles such as Recovery, Trackside Support, Pre-grid Management, and Scrutineering are crucial, with officials often multitasking to fulfill various responsibilities. The Sprint Series serves as an excellent training ground for new officials, providing them with the necessary skills and experience to officiate at Track Days and State-based Race Meetings.
It's worth noting that Officials as young as 16 can participate, with Runners as young as 14. Officials receive distinctive AASA long sleeve tee and hat. Lunch is included free of charge during each event, with training opportunities available to support their development.
Looking ahead, the next round of the Winton Sprint Series is scheduled for June 1st, and interested participants are encouraged to secure their spots early.
