Mostert Ready to Tackle Winton

With the Perth round of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship wrapped up on the weekend, focus has turned to the local round at Winton Raceway.

The Perth races were dominated by DJR Team Penske driver Scott McLaughlin who claimed victory in both Super Sprint Races. His team mate Fabian Coulthard currently leads the championship.

While attention has been focussed on the emerging rivalry between DJR Team Penske and Holden Red Bull Racing, Team Principal from Prodrive Racing Australia (PRA) Tim Edwards says his drivers, headed by Chaz Mostert and Mark Winterbottom shouldn’t be discounted.

“I don’t think it is the two-horse race everyone seems to believe,’ Edwards said.

“We are right there in it and there’s still a long way to go this season.”

Chaz Mostert, who finished second to McLaughlin on the Sunday race at Perth is confident of going one better at Winton.

“Winton has been pretty good to us in the past,” Mostert said.

“It’s our test track for PRA and is always exciting going there. We’ve probably done the most laps out of most of the teams in the category and we know what to expect there, so we always look forward to going there.

“It’s a crucial time of the year in our Championship plans, so we’ll see how we go.

“The track has been resurfaced and widened a bit, so it’s really opened up the racing side of it, and strategy comes into it a lot around there too.

‘I’m very excited to be going back and look forward to having some good grip around there and having a toe to toe battle with the rest of the guys.”
