Drifting returns to Winton Motor Raceway this weekend, 21-22 February, for the Summer Matsuri, run by the Victorian Drift Club (VicDrift).

The Matsuri format, which originated in Japan, is aimed at creating a festival atmosphere where drifting enthusiasts can test the capabilities of their cars while also enjoying the company of their friends off the track.

Entries for the Winton Summer Matsuri were capped at 140, and VicDrift President Matthew Choong said the response was terrific.

“Entries were full within about 12 hours of them opening, which was excellent,” Choong said.

“Our Matsuri events tend to be very popular because they offer a friendly environment where people can come and enjoy drifting their cars, while also spending time with like-minded people.

“With this year’s event, we’ll be running sessions on both the circuit and motorkhana pad, and drivers will be allocated into groups based on their experience and skill levels.

“We will be running some mini competitions as well, including the most extreme corner entry, a team drifting competition and also a drift parking competition, where drivers will slide their car into a parking spot marked out with cones.”

Choong said there will be a spectacular assortment of cars on display.

“There will be a lot of Japanese cars typically associated with drifting, like Nissan Skylines, but there will also be some Holdens and Fords,” Choong said.

“There is an XY Falcon which actually has an HSV LS1 motor, and some other cars with interesting modifications.

“Having the campground open will add to the atmosphere and make it a fun weekend for all participants.”

Gates open at 7:00am on both Saturday and Sunday, with spectator admission will be $20 per day, while passenger rides are also available for $30 per day. Camping is $25 per person per night.[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
